The PRO 10 History
Since the early 1990s, the Pro-10 RC car racing category has become a true icon of electric racing. What began as an ambitious 1:10 class with flat, aerodynamic bodies quickly became the benchmark for precision, speed and technical innovation. In the early years, handcrafted carbon fibre chassis and experimental drive concepts dominated the scene – a time when pioneers laid the foundation for what is now high technology with passion and improvisation.
With the integration of brushless motors and LiPo batteries in the early 2000s, the Pro 10 class entered a new era of performance. Vehicles became lighter, more efficient and faster, lap times decreased, and the competition grew into a global phenomenon. Engineers, drivers and enthusiasts worldwide worked hand in hand to continually push the boundaries of perfection on the track.
The Pro 10 category, once one of the most prestigious classes among electric on-road vehicles, was gradually removed from the official IFMAR and EFRA regulations during the 2000s. The main reasons for this were technological and structural changes in RC racing and maybe different economical interests of big manufacturers.
On the one hand, the interest of many drivers and manufacturers shifted to the more popular 1:10 4WD touring car and 1:12 Pan Car classes, which were less expensive, more accessible and easier to handle for beginners and occasional drivers. At the same time, touring cars developed so much technically that they increasingly took over the role of the fast, aerodynamic electric class.
The declining number of participants in international championships also made it difficult for the associations to continue to support the Pro 10 class organisationally. Since official world and European championships depend on a certain minimum participation, the class lost its status as an official IFMAR or EFRA category over time.
Nevertheless, it remained in many national associations and clubs – as a heritage class, maintained by enthusiasts like PRO10 Series who continue to keep alive the purist character, technical freedom and unmistakable style of the Pro 10 to this day.
The Mindset of enjoy and share the good moments and rest on track in the evening, is a clear departure from mainstream TC categories, where top international drivers remain in the stock categories for decades, even though these are intended for beginners, and it also goes against the ‘straight to the hotel after the race’ mentality.
